Files for all apps besides data-analysis

Files can be loaded with the options behind the menu button .at the top right of your screen. There are two menu-options to load data.   The option “Dataset” gives a number of predefined datasets. Just click on the presented dataset and the dataset will be loaded. The option “Dataset from google drive” presents the datasets at your own google drive.

Google drive

For a smooth progress of the lesson or the homework it is important that the students won’t have to type data, but they can open a file. Given all the protections on the web, this is a tricky business.
We have chosen the solution of google drive.
Google drive has several nice options.

  • It is free for students and teachers. Anybody can ask for a gmail -account and will get a 15Gb google drive account free.
  • Students can save and load data with the apps once they have given the apps permission to access their drive
  • The student self is responsible for its own data, passwords etc. They can use the data at home.
  • Google supports data-sharing in teaching situation. You can google to find more information..

The first time you use your google-drive for the apps. Google will ask permission from you to approach the google drive. Google uses a pop-up to agree about this permission. Often the web-browser refuses pop-ups. You have to allow your browser pop-up for this site www.vustat.eu.
The easiest way to do this, is to google to find the setting for your browser for pop-up. Chrome e.g., it is hidden in the settings / advanced and then under the heading of privacy.

If you have several gmail login, be careful to be logged on with only one adres. To logout from google use the icon at the top right of your google-page. . Note that shutting down windows is not enough to logout from google.

Save file

To save a dataset on google drive you need to use the same menubutton  and select the option “save to google drive”.

Below is a sample of such a json file.

{
    "app": "bootstrap1",
    "words": [
        [
            "Finger tips ",
            "Fingerspitzen",
            "Finger tips",
            "Tikken met vinger",
            "Tikken vinges tips",
            "Finger tips ",
            "Finger tips",
            "Finger tips",
            "Finger tips",
            "Finger tips",
            "指纹与咖啡因",
            "Finger tips",
            "Finger tips"
        ]
    ],
    "dataA": "245 246 246 248 248 248 250 250 250 252",
    "info": [
        "Information about this table",
        "info about this table",
        "Information über dies Tabelle",
        "Informatie over deze tabel"
    ]
}
The file format is JSON. You can not change the data and the words the vustat apps uses in different languages.
If the files originally did come from a google drive, you get the option to update the file or to create a new file.
Note that two files on the google drive can have the same name.

Files in the app data analysis.

The menu options for loading and saving files are now in the first menu option.

But there are options under the menu-option “Options”. It is possible to load a json file from your local drive or network. Another possibility is to load a text file from your local drive or network. There are several options comma-separated, tab separated etcetera . Comma-separated  is the advised way.
